This feud started On the July 6, 2007 episode of SmackDown!, when Hardy won a non-title match against WWE United States Champion montal vontevious portal aka MVP. This was the start of feud between them. Mat hardy lost to MVP on pay per view the great American bash (currently known as the bash).once MVP said that “he is better than matt hardy in everything “which make series of contests between them including basketball game, arm wrestling, after that MVP challenged matt hardy in boxing match on Saturday night main event where MVP was unable to compete and he was replace by Evander Holyfield to compete with matt hardy. This match ended in no contest as MVP came to ring and verbally abused Evander Holyfield which caused him knockout punch from former world champion boxer. After this MVP challenged matt hardy in beer drinking contest where matt sent his replacement stone cold Steve Austin who performed stunner on MVP. After it MVP choose Matt hardy as his tag team partner inadvertently and own WWE tag team title from Deuce and Domino. It was 1^st time matt hardy held tag title with other than his brother Jeff hardy. They retained titles at unforgiven pay per view in match with former tag team champions Deuce ‘n domino. Matt hardy was scheduled to face MVP on pay per view cyber Sunday (currently known as Bragging rights) but due to head injury he was not able to compete.

On November 16 2007 MVP and Matt hardy lost tag titles to john Morison and the Miz. Despite of knowing fact that hardy is injured MVP invoked rematch clause in which hardy was force to tap out to lose the match. MVP attacked matt hardy on his knee which caused him injury. Because of that Matt was not able to compete in survivor series match. After that matt underwent surgery. On December 31 episode of raw matt appear on raw t support his brother Jeff in match with randy Orton. Matt was attacked by Orton.

On March 30 wrestlemania 24 hardy made his re-debut on television to entering money in the bank match to attack MVP and preventing him from wining money n the bank match. After that debuting on raw matt hardy defeated MVP in no-title match on April 4 2008 episode of smackdown to continue their feud. On April 27 2008 at Backlash Matt hardy defeated MVP to win United States championship which ended their feud.
